Maya De Sousa

Who I am

Hello, My name is Maya De Sousa a BSW student. I am so excited to start my journey at Embodied Resilience! I am a mother to a young child and have already learned so much from parenthood. I have known I have wanted to be a social worker for as long as I can remember. I have always found it so important to help others navigate through the challenges we all face in our lives! I am an empathetic and creative person who will advocate for you and work with you to create plans and solutions to any situation.

Area of Focus

As someone with ADHD myself, my area of focus is working with individuals with ADHD. As a student, I’m exploring and learning about different aspects of ADHD and where I would like to further focus on. Currently, I would like to work with individuals who are exploring what ADHD means for them and want to learn more about it.

My Professional Journey

I am a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) student with a minor in Indigenous studies in my last year of the four-year program at Wilfrid Laurier University. I have worked with;

- Adults and children with physical and cognitive disabilities.
- At-risk youth (Juvenile Delinquency).
- Elders in retirement homes and those who have chosen to stay in their homes but still need assistance.
- The unhoused.
- New mothers facing issues postpartum.
- Indigenous communities on various issues.

I am so excited to learn and grow my knowledge of ADHD by working with this amazing team to better assist clients as well as my own family members who are living with ADHD.

My Interests

- Watching and playing Hockey and Soccer.
- I was a ‘setter’ in Volleyball pre-child.
- I love going to the beach.
- Doing fun photoshoots with my baby.
